Founders’ Day banquet honors parent volunteers
Springfield Council of PTAs (SCPTA) hosted its annual Founders' Day banquet on Feb. 17 at Parkview High School, celebrating volunteers throughout the Springfield Public Schools district.
In addition to celebrating a Volunteer of the Year from every SPS site, the Mardi Gras themed event featured decor by Parkview Cabinet members, cajun food from the SPS catering team and performances from members of the Parkview orchestra and jazz band. Superintendent Dr. Grenita Lathan and Board of Education President Judy Brunner spoke at the event, and Parkview Student Body President Grant shared a special "We Choose SPS" video that he created for the evening.

In Springfield, PTA was first organized more than 100 years ago in 1913 with a meeting at Phelps School. Member schools included Boyd, Bowerman, Campbell, Fairbanks and Phelps. The Founders' Day celebration is a reminder of the substantial role that PTA has played locally, regionally and nationally in supporting parent involvement and working on behalf of all children and families.
